This usually only happens once a year, which makes it a Big Deal, and as such, we have declared a school holiday. This is to protect the children, you see, since the roads are....treacherous.
Ahem.
But as I am watching the snow flurry around, I am wondering, how does any of it ever reach the ground? Because each dancing, spinning, floating flake seems to be trying very hard to avoid actually touching the grass. It reminds me of when children play the don't-let-the-balloon-touch-the-ground game and run around like crazy bopping a sinking balloon back into the air. Which then makes me imagine billions of minuscule kids in purple snow suits (because Hannah's is purple) encouraging their flakes to stay in the air a little longer...
And of course that reminds me of every '80s fantasy movie ever made, because '80s fantasy meant little flying faeries and magical floating pollen just like '80s fashion meant neon sweaters and stirrup pants (yech). Which makes me remember watching Legend as a kid, and being very concerned about all that stuff in the air.
Because I have always had severe allergies, and I was pretty sure that was an unhealthy environment. I mean, no matter how adorable or magical, a gnome with faerie allergies was just not going to make it. Maybe that's why Rudolph has such a red nose; he's actually allergic to pixie dust.
Which brings me back to snow. It snowed here in Alabama, did I mention that?
Hannah thinks it's glorious. Sam thinks it's cold. Josh is confused but likes being bundled and snuggled.
Poor Sam, he left his gloves outside yesterday and they froze. I mean, they are going to remain a part of the back porch until summertime. I even tried taking a hairdryer to them before giving up. So I remembered the wisdom of my mother, and sent him outside with socks on his hands. Hannah wore socks, too, in a show of solidarity.

Hysterical commentary!!
ReplyDeleteAnd girl, you know you loved some stirrup pants. Don't lie.
My girls' gloves actually froze together. Ugh. I really hate cold and wet.
AH, Hannah is so sweet. Maybe Avery could teach Sam to like the snow, goodness knows she hates coming inside. Just teach him to eat it...since he likes to eat maybe that would fly
ReplyDeleteHey I actually saw stirrup pants for sale at K-mart the other day! Yes, there are a few K-marts left in the world, but not for long if they insist on selling stirrup pants.
ReplyDeleteYou post always make me smile. You have such a way with words.
